FROM FR. ROBERT’S CLUTTERED DESK............. February 11, 2010 Dear Parishioners, The holy season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 17th. Lent is the church’s special time of prayer and fasting in preparation for Easter. I have enclosed a Catholic Update: “LENT, DAY BY DAY, Lessons of the Heart” that contains good suggestions on how to observe the season of Lent. The exercises might be good for a whole household to meditate on and try to put into practice. For your benefit I am reviewing the Lenten Regulations for Fast and Abstinence:
On the Fridays of Lent starting at 4:00 p.m. St. Margaret of Scotland Parish will have a special time of prayer where we will prayer the Rosary, do the Stations of the Cross and celebrate Benediction. During the season of Lent let us all pray for those who are planning to enter the church at Easter or later on in the church year. Now for some business, it is time for us to update our church membership information. Please carefully read and legibly fill out the census form provided. Please give some indication of what you hope to give the church financially this year. Your pledge is not legally binding and is only used to calculate how the church will service the budget for the upcoming fiscal year that starts July 1st. You will also find the current financial statement with real figures for the first half of the present fiscal year. Many of you have cancelled your subscription to the diocesan newspaper. The parish is still responsible for subscriptions amounting to 1/3 of the number of registered families. The diocese makes no exceptions to this rule. Households are invited to pay for a subscription to the Key or make a donation to defray costs to the parish. Let us continue to pray for our sick and the people of our parish who are unemployed. May we all have a good Lent. Sincerely in Christ, Rev. Robert H. Stewart Pastor
