1996 The Parish Ministry Council of Our Lady of Presentation began serious discussions about the overcrowding at all of the Masses

1997 Our Lady Of The Presentation church had grown to more than 9,000 members. This rapid growth and a generous donation of 15 acres of land triggered the Diocese to explore the possibility of a new parish. Rather than taking a traditional approach to the issue, Diocese and parish leadership championed this new process.

A "Future Search" Conference was held the weekend of February 28, 1997.  Approximately 80 members of the Our Lady of the Presentation and members of the Diocesan staff met for 16 hours over three days to discuss their visions and explore necessary relationships among parish members, parishes, and the Diocese.

As the conference closed, all were amazed that they had developed a common vision of the future and formed necessary committees to begin the investigation of a new parish.

1998 Discussion continued in Various forms and in various groups until June 1998 when, armed with a survey of Mass-attending parishioners, the Ministry Council and Finance Committee officially endorsed a plan to form a new parish in Lee's Summit.

Bishop Raymond Boland took those recommendations under advisement, and after much consultation with various Diocesan groups, he determined that indeed a new parish should be formed in Lee's Summit- Virtually in accord with the parish's recommendations

Bishop Boland affirmed that the name of the new parish was to be St. Margaret's in memory of the late Margaret Gibson of  Our Lady of the Presentation Parish. She was the wife of William R. Gibson, who donated the land for the new parish in her memory.
